Folio and Windows Vista Users

If a previous version of a Folio program was running on your Windows Vista system, you must complete the following either before or after running the install program:
  • 1. Right click your mouse over the "Start" button.

  • 2. Select "Explore" from the pop-up window.

  • 3. Left click your mouse on the arrow next to "Computer" to expand the folder.

  • 4. Navigate to the following folder: "C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\LooseleafLaw" (Substitute "User_Name" with your account name).

  • 5. Delete the "LooseleafLaw" folder and all sub-folders.

  • 6. Close all open windows and then run the program.
(Note: the virtual folder will be re-created with updated settings the first time you run the program)

Or you may elect to use the following procedure:
  • 1. Go to "Start|Control Panel".

  • 2. Select "User Accounts and Family Safety".

  • 3. Select "User Accounts".

  • 4. Select "Turn User Account Control On or Off".

  • 5. Uncheck "Use User Account Control (UAC) to Help Protect Your Computer".

  • 6. Click "OK".

  • 7. Click "Restart Now".
Windows Vista Compatibility Mode Settings:
  • 1. Right click on the "Program Icon" on your desktop.

  • 2. Select "Properties" from the pop-up window.

  • 3. Select the "Compatibility Tab"

  • 4. Put a check mark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

  • 5. Select "Windows XP (Service Pack2)".

  • 6. Click "Apply" and then "OK".
(Note: Failure to follow the above procedure will corrupt your shadow file (.sdw) if you use the File|Save menu option and require you to create a new shadow file.

Error Message "The Item Is In Use By User..." (your shadow file is corrupt)
  • 1. Run the "Folio" Program

  • 2. Go to menu item "File|Close", you will see a blank screen

  • 3. Go to menu item "File|Open"

  • 4. Select the file with the ".nfo" file extension and click "Open"

  • 5. Go to menu item "File|New"

  • 6. Select the file with the ".sdw" file extension and click "New"

  • 7. When the "Confirm Save As" dialog window appears, click "Yes"
